Module 1 and 2 Complete – What next?

It seems so daunting, so many threads to follow.

I’ve got my Blue Yeti microphone (had that anyway) and a proud owner of a webcam (Logitech Brio 4K Pro). I’m rarely on camera, in fact I can probably count the number of times I have been on camera on one hand, so I do need to become comfortable with this. I’ve just started playing RealBridge on Tuesday evenings, so I tested the webcam and have now got to work out how to light my face gently without getting reflection off my glasses. A green screen might be needed and perhaps I’ll need to use a room where everything is set-up ready to go. The one fly in the ointment is that our fibre broadband has slipped another month. Current broadband is less than 4K and unreliable, interview format will probably be a non-starter for a while.

I’m making my notes from the two modules completed so far and I’ve started to listen to Richard’s podcast AtHitPodCast2020 on my iPhone and I’ve subscribed to his emails on http://www.CanIMakeAHitPodCast.com when Richard gets bandwidth to start up again. Richard – Please correct if these are wrong.

I’ve listened to the first three episodes, they are excellent, the science behind making a successful podcast (or not). So, I’m making more notes from this, and it is making me think even more about what my goals are, why I’m doing this, and what sort of podcast can be a sustainable one. The advice on start talking about what you do or have learnt during the week resonates really well with me.

So, in the next few weeks the goals will be:

  • Continue with Richard’s podcast episodes, at least the next few to see what other items are to be added to the ToDo list.
  • Define the Grand Vision and the 2-week and 3-month goals
  • Start documenting “What did I learn this week?”, I need to get into the habit of this – it is likely to be the source for the podcast
  • Practise making a recording of “What I learnt this week” and getting to grips with Audacity and Descript (both downloaded now).
  • Download CANVA and see what sort of Podcast Logo I can create with it.
  • Continue to learn the intro music for whatever podcast I do eventually make.

Nothing like putting pen to paper to get yourself committed.
