My Podcast Journey Week 9

March already, my 9th week, but I do feel as if I am making progress. I’ve just created a new website on WordPress using the free option. Maximo Secrets is at the Premium level and has plenty of space remaining. I can access these two sites and the Podcasting Beginners Course from the same login. Can you have two websites running from the same account, i.e., can the new site use the Premium account of Maximo Secrets without mixing the posts, pages, and media? I certainly couldn’t justify two lots of premium payments a month.

I’ve opted for the new Twenty TwentyTwo theme (Blue) for ‘The Diary of a Digital Nobody’ with a static home page and two pages with the Blog Posts Block, one for My Diary and the other for My Podcast Journey. It is the episodes of My Diary which I will eventually turn into a podcast with the same name as the site. The two pages have an inclusive category so that only the posts of My Diary appear on that page and similarly for My Podcast Journey. In essence this was repeating what I learnt last week from the Blogging for Beginners Course monthly workshop that I gate crashed courtesy of Tanya. As both pages are a diary of sorts, I’ve managed to change the post pages so that they come out chronologically. Note. I will continue to publish My Podcasting Journey on the P2 site.

There is a fourth page which was a theme default which is where all posts exist regardless of whether they appear on another page, you don’t seem to be able to edit this. I’ll live with it for the time being, but once I get to a podcast, I wouldn’t want them appearing on a page that otherwise just contains words.

In response to Feedback Frenzy #4 I responded to Richard’s request for info on people that use LinkedIn. I got carried away and when I did publish the comment it was late, and then I realised I hadn’t commented on Richard’s comment but the original post from Georgina, sorry about that. This was just one of a few interesting posts recently, and I thought Richard was supposed to be on holiday. Then it occurred to me that there is probably a whole back catalogue of posts, and of course there is, and when I looked a bit more carefully, I found the search and a whole bunch of other things that I haven’t yet investigated.

Georgina’s post at the beginning of the week had an important last paragraph which works for me. Sharing your goals increases the probability of you achieving those goals – it gets me committed in my own mind. It’s not that I forget all the other little things I need to do but writing it down in a list increases the chances of things happening. I have a daily list and a monthly list, and I didn’t do a monthly list for February, and I expect that I achieved a third less than I would have done otherwise, but then I have been consumed by my new obsession – podcasting.

The new web site is coming on well. All the content I’ve posted on the P2 site is ready to go with links to my own site, because links to the P2 site would not work for external viewers. The @ links have been replaced with the first name, Richard, Georgina, Tanya, and Dr. Rita. The first eight weeks of My 2022 Diary have also had their final proofread, removing a few pieces of duplication between weeks and correcting a few spelling mistakes and my weak spot, grammar – it won’t be perfect. I’ve been back on Canva and designed two graphics to appear in the header for each page, before you get to the Blog Posts Block. While you can configure the Blog Posts Block to fit the width of the screen or slightly narrower, it seems there is no similar capability for the paragraph or separator blocks, perhaps there is a workaround.

The new web site requires work on the Home page and the page where the latest blog posts will be seen. I’ve got no doubt I will launch it with Week 9 posts probably Thursday or Friday this coming week. Then I will build it out with additional pages over the following weeks to turn it into my digital scrapbook, this is what I had been attempting last year. I’ll live with the new Twenty TwentyTwo theme for now, but it does need some work.

I’ve designed a podcast logo for ‘The Diary of a Digital Nobody’ and requested comment from the P2 community in the article ‘Your Second Honest Opinion?’  I don’t think Tanya was a fan, but she had some good feedback to follow-up on. I was also very uncertain about the font, still am, even after seeing something similar on the BBC this evening, the word ‘Italy’. I think I will play around with having different font sizes for different words with the words running diagonally from top left to bottom right so that when the eye catches it, it reads more like Diary Digital Nobody. My wife liked the logo, and she would say if she didn’t. I don’t have to decide yet, I’m still a few weeks away from launching the podcast.

The Maximo Bite Size articles did take some of my time last week, with four close to completion. Progress will speed up once I have a web site launched.

Objectives for Week 10

  • Publish the website for ‘The Diary of a Digital Nobody’ with the first 9 weeks as written scripts.
  • Complete and proofread the documentation of six episodes of ‘Maximo Bite Size’.
  • Rework the podcast logo for ‘The Diary of a Digital Nobody’
  • Maintain a daily diary (it needs to become a habit)
  • Do a trial record of Episode 1 of ‘The Diary of a Digital Nobody’. I’ll use Audacity for this.
  • Revisit the objectives I set in week 4, now considering both podcasts.
  • Start learning how to edit using Descript and the captured Zoom calls.
