I have a few issues to sort out this week. First up is a missing rosette on the 10th question in my new style quizzes. If I turn off the Lazy Load Images in Settings – Performance, then the rosette is displayed. I can reduce the number of images by six by creating a legend with the seven rosette colours with a single image, so I set about this with great expectations that this would solve the issue, alas it did not, but at least I have something that looks neater.
When I called the Happiness Engineers and wondered whether it was possible to stop Lazy Load Images on a single post, I was informed that I could turn this off completely as most browsers now handle images much better so much so that WordPress were looking to deprecate the feature. With that being the case, I have turned this feature off and the 10th rosette now displays.
The second issue was that the rosette on the ninth flashcard is misaligned to the left, although it has the same formatting as all other flashcards. I decided to copy the post for the first quiz and as I was working down to change the questions and answers for the second quiz, I noticed that this was perfectly aligned on the ninth question. Strange, that it should be working on one quiz and not the other. The Happiness Engineer said that this was probably a bug while loading the block but very difficult to replicate unless you know the sequence of events. He showed a video where he could change a setting and then the rosette symbol aligned. They said that they could create some code to correct this, but I declined, it is no deal breaker, and the fewer lines of custom code the better. I did try recreating the whole flashcard to see whether this corrected the problem, it did not.
The glossary terms which last week were not finding their posts now seem to be working OK, so I have nothing to do for this except monitor the situation to see if the issue returns.
I’ve added a further three quizzes in the new flashcard format. I had previously written them, so mainly a cut and paste job, a bit laborious. I’ve published two of them during the week and the other one is published privately; I’ll make this public next week. So, now I’m getting used to publishing privately, and I’ve managed to go through six years of using WordPress before realising I could do that.
I need to travel on Sunday to Belgium, it will take most of the day. It looks likely that I will be on a full-time project for a while which will create a severe dent in my Maximo Secrets website, video and podcast aims for this year. It is likely to be manic for the first couple of weeks, and travelling now wears me out, so much so that midday the following day when I would normally be doing work on my blog, I’ll probably be taking a snooze in a quiet spot.
After I return, I’m going to have to re-evaluate what I spend time doing. The videos are likely to be paused for a while. I can continue the quizzes and glossary as I can snatch an odd hour here and there for those. Similarly, I could continue with revamping the website as I still have that static home page to create. I could also start writing the next set of podcast episodes which do form the basis for the videos. Lots of options to consider. Do I continue this Podcast Journey? It certainly eats into the available hours.
I’m not going to set objectives for next week as I know I won’t hit any of them. In the evenings I’ll be trying to decipher my notes and creating something that is readable and that will remind me in the weeks to come of what I learnt during the client workshops.
